Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After the closure of Ridgeline Games, I joined BioWare in April 2024 to assist the talented gameplay team in the final stretch for Dragon Age’s Fall release. Given my passion and experience working with cameras on Halo Infinite, I was tasked with owning various camera features to bring them to shipping quality. These are my most notable contributions.
Player Ability Cameras
Each player ability and ultimate ability in DA:V features a custom camera to accentuate the action being performed. I significantly polished dozens of abilities through various methods including timing, movement, shakes, and framing.
Character Menu & Character Creator Cameras
The Character Menu and Character Creator both feature many cameras to depict character and gear customization. I inherited bones of the system then polished each camera for visual quality, responsiveness to player input, and accommodation for many RPG variables (character heights, gear sizes, etc.). I also lent scripting support to the UI team in order to bring features such as weapon previewing online.
In Mission Look-Ats
At designer-scripted moments during missions, the player’s camera may be briefly directed to look at a point of interest. I was tasked with improving the camera behavior of these “look-ats” to make them feel less jarring and to polish the framing and timing of each one in the game (60+ instances).
